German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin have ended their last-minute Ukraine peace talks, Putin’s office says. The conflict in eastern Ukraine has claimed more than 5,000 lives since last year, 200 in the last three weeks alone, according to the United Nations. Ukraine’s Security Council said on 06 February that two soldiers were killed and 26 injured in clashes during the past 24 hours. Fighting in the last few days has centred on the Debaltseve rail hub, a government-held pocket inside separatist territory. The separatists said on 06 February that they agreed with Kiev to form a humanitarian corridor to evacuate civilians from the embattled city. EPA/Vladimir Vladimirov
