US government applies sanctions to China’s Huawei amid trade dispute

According to media reports on 16 May 2019, the US Commerce Department added Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. to the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) Entity List, which prohibits the company from obtaining technology from US firms without explicit government approval. The decision was made on national security grounds, as US has accused Huawei, a Chinese telecommunications firm, of potentially conducting espionage on behalf of the Chinese government with the implementation of its 5G network.
